A Reflective Rant

What’s that saying about best-laid plans? According to Professor Google, “The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry.” I don’t think that’s what I am thinking of. But that’s not really the point here.

It’s 2020, let’s be real, you can plan all you want but what you need to be able to do is pivot. Let me tell you, I am sick of pivoting.

It’s week three of the semester, give or take week four of me taking this “Content Creator” thing seriously. That internship thing I talked about previously, that’s out. And this week has just been a week and it’s only Thursday.

The ongoing struggle of the week, you ask? So my goal is to post a singular video on Guitar Picks and Lipstick every Monday at like 1 pm. This doesn’t sound that difficult, perfectly achievable even with everything else I have going on. Not this week.

My account is all set up to be able to post videos over 15 minutes. I don’t think my internet knows that because after about 36 hours of trying to process my original video YouTube finally told it failed to upload. Like I could have told you that.

By that point, I had already cut the original video into five smaller videos and started trying to upload them. As I am writing this, its Thursday and only two of the five videos are currently live. I am hoping that by like the end of the day tomorrow they will all be uploaded, or the worst-case scenario is they will all up before noon on Saturday.

You might have caught something there. It’s Thursday and I am just now writing this post and they go up on Fridays. Part of that is due to the aforementioned problems with uploading, and part of that is just due to my lack of motivation.

Seriously, every day this week I have ended up taking naps and feeling like crud by the end of the day. I have literally no idea why, but I am sure that trying not to stress over my entire content plan being thrown for a loop hasn’t helped anything.

When I decided to take this whole content creator thing seriously, I made a content plan. I don’t think it looks anything like what the Pinterest bloggers say it should. It’s literally a Google Doc, where I went week by week, platform by platform (excluding a couple), and just listed a vague idea of a title for whatever is going up there that week.

Last week was the true first week, with posting on all the platforms. Things were pretty good for the first week. I thought this week, would go just as well. But no. I am figuring things out, double post here, mass upload there but in the initial moments, it is stressful.

Oh yeah, that internship. I think this one experience sums it all. I had to call a company and ask to speak with their CEO, I called asked got a secretary, asked for their CEO, and was told he died several years ago. These people are still sending me to work even though I told them that I wasn’t going to be completing the internship.

I have been getting interest on other applications and applying for other things here and there. What I have been realizing is how poorly some companies respect interested interns’ time. Seriously, I should not have to email anyone three times, to clarify what time zone you available at this time in.

It’s just been a lot, and fair warning nest week’s post is going to reflection too. And there’s going a double post on Serena K. See you then!
