Alexa, Play “Thrift Shop” by Mackelmore

Did you know that August 17th, was Thrift Shop day? Which just seems like the perfect opportunity to play fashion blogger and showcase some of my favorite thrifted items.

I started thrifting casually about a year ago, and by far my favorite store is Scorpio Rising in Tacoma. Its much more of a curated second-hand experience than a true blue thrift store, but that makes it really nice when I am looking for something specific. In fact, most of these items are from there! (Also, yes I dyed my hair and yes, it is purple)

Steinway Sweatshirt

This was a complete and utter impulse purchase. If I remember correctly, the day I bought this it was really cold, and I forgot a jacket but then I found this sweatshirt. I am a stage hand, which means most of my Friday and Saturday nights are spent moving pianos (Steinway’s included), and our uniform is all black. Meaning this sweatshirt will always have a special place in my heart.

It’s pretty basic, its just a black crewneck with the Steinway and Son’s logo in white. There’s not really any tags in it, so I have no idea of it’s history. There’s a little bit of staining and or fading on the front, and one of the cuffs on the sleeves has a thumb hole, which is kinda a plus.

Mustard Yellow, 70’s Men’s Shirt

I affectionately refer to this as my Barney Miller shirt, because well, it is. It’s a 70’s men’s polyester mustard yellow shirt. I think it may have originally been some sort of sample just because there’s button holes on the sleeves but not actual buttons, and the washing instructions are stamped on the outside of the shirt.

The tag in the back says Belgrave Square, Career Club. My favorite way to wear this shirt is to kinda roll, fold the sleeves up. I also really like how it looks tied. I originally bought this to see The Maine at the Showbox last November and I really liked how light weight it was. It meant that I could still wear a jacket over it, and not get too hot.

Purple Shorts

They’re dyed, purple cut off Levi’s. There’s not much else to say… Lol. They are probably the shortest shorts I own but I love them and they’re really cute. (And, no my head isn’t totally cut off in these photo because I tried to forget about these and had to take the photos after I had already taken my makeup off, that would be crazy. Why would you think that?!?!)

Elephant Purse

I love this purse. If I remember correctly it was only $15 and its some vintage Italian designer, actual leather. Basically it should have cost me way more than it actually did. It definitely has some signs of wear but that’s kind of the point of buying second-hand, everything is already a little broken in.

The inside tag says Furla, made in Italy, genuine leather. I know nothing about “Designer brands” but when I bought it the lady say that is some designer. The strap is somewhat adjustable, like you could just pull it the length you want and tie new knots. The elephants are kinda a gold-toned silver and they even have little faces on them!

Hard Rock Guitar Pin

This just a cute little Hard Rock Cafe, Washington D.C. pin. I think the main selling feature was the fact that it is shaped like a guitar, and I am a guitarist.

I’ve never been to Washington D.C. and I don’t really like the Hard Rock Cafe that much, but the pins cute!

Bangle Braclet

And last but not least is this wooden bangle bracelet. I haven’t really found the perfect opportunity to wear it yet. Its just a simple black bracelet with a pink floral and green leaf pattern. I really hope I found the perfect outfit for it this fall!

And that’s all for now!

I can’t wait until it’s safe to go thrifting again. What is your favorite thing that you’ve bought second-hand?
